Search Apache Junction Arizona

The Apache Trail is one of the most popular day trips from the Phoenix-Mesa metro area. Visitors can follow the footsteps that Native Americans and hopeful prospectors took over 100 years ago. The trail features miles of spectacular desert wilderness and scenic beauty. The well-paved road winds through the Superstition Mountains, home of the Lost Dutchman State Park Gold Mine, and continues past mountain lakes and ends at the Old West trading post of Tortilla Flat.

The Apache Trail, or AZ 88 as it is officially known, links Apache Junction at the edge of the Greater Phoenix area with Globe. Past the lakes, the trail continues in more traditional fashion to the former copper mining town of Globe, but it is the western half that is the most scenic and well known. However, caution is required when driving and it is not recommended for large RVs or caravans.
