Glen Canyon/Lake PowellA Designated National Recreation Area |
With over a million miles of land to explore within the Glen Canyon/Lake Powell NRA, visitors will find no lack of opportunities for recreation. Lake Powell's nearly 2,000 miles of shoreline make it a top destination for water enthusiasts; boating and fishing are excellent, and there's plenty of room for swimming and watersports. Glen Canyon's outstanding location amid a host of natural wonders and national sites, as well as the rugged charm of the surrounding countryside, draws about 3 million visitors a year to take advantage of its many camping and picnicking sites, miles of hiking trails, park service programs, and lodging & dining facilities. Entrance requires 7-day or annual per vehicle use fee, purchased at Glen Canyon visitor centers and ranger stations. The Carl Hayden Visitor Center at Glen Canyon Dam offers many visitor amenities, including free daily tours of the dam; open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., with longer summer hours.
