Experience Arizona's first European settlement at this 10-acre park that features living history programs. Remnants of the military fort founded by Spanish soldiers at this site in 1752 were uncovered by University of Arizona archaeologists in 1974 and preserved by Arizona State Parks.
An underground display features portions of the original foundation, walls, and plaza floor of the Presidio (Fort) de San Ignacio de Tubac. A museum includes pre-European, Spanish Colonial, Mexican Republic, and Territorial-period exhibits, including the press that printed Arizona's first newspaper in 1859. The Historic Old Tubac Schoolhouse (1885), and Otero Social Hall (1914), are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For hikers, the Anza Trailhead is also at the site.
Day-use only park; facilities include restrooms, a picnic area, and a Visitor Center; open 8am-5pm, closed Christmas Day.
