Lying mostly above 1888 metres in elevation, the Kokanee, Caribou and Woodbury glaciers within the park feed over 30 lakes and are the headwater of many creeks. Vegatation varies from subalpine medows to a few pure stands of alpine larch.
The park was established in 1922 and is one of the oldest in the province. Protection of grizzly bear habitat was the main reason for the park's expansion in 1995.
Located in the wilderness area of of the Selkirk Mountains between Slocan Lake and Kootenay Lake, Kokanee Glacier Provincial Park is 34 km northeast of Nelson.
