Pender Island British Columbia |
A bridge that spans a canal between Bedwell and Browning Harbors, joins together North and South Pender Islands. Before the canal was dredged to provide access from one harbor to another, boats had to be carried across a wide neck of land called Indian Portage. Recently artifacts dating back 10,000 years were uncovered here by an archaeological dig. The Penders are known not only for their numerous accessible secluded coves and beaches, but also for the many artists/artisans who live here. As you leave Hope Bay on Bedwell Harbour Road, at the top of the hill you'll find an old school that houses their works. See other attractions such as picturesque barns, mansions and country stores. Camping, b&b's, and resorts are available. Pender Island is in the Gulf Islands.
