Gileppe Dam was built in the 1870s, then made higher one century later, in the 1970s. It bars the confluence of the
Vesdre River and the Getz River, creating an artificial lake 300 acres in size that serves to guarantee a reliable water supply to
Eupen and the surrounding communities. Sailboats are allowed on the lake, though motorboats are forbidden. Visitors may walk along the top of the dam, taking in a fantastic view of the valley below.
