Kalmthout is a commune of 17,000 north of Antwerpen. The primary tourist attraction is 800 hectares of open heathland and bird sanctuary, the Kalmthoutse Heide Nature Reserve. The nature preserve is complemented by the De Vroente Visitor's Centre, and the Kalmthout Arboretum, featuring 6,000 varieties of flora.
