The MIAT covers industrial development from the year 1750 forward, with special emphasis on textiles, the most important industry in [flanders] for several centuries. The first industrial revolution, the gradual developments of machine technology, and the transition from the industrial era into the information era are all covered. The role of women in industry is given special attention.

The MIAT occupies the top three floors of a five-story building. There is an excellent view of Gent from the top floor.
