Muse des Postes et Tlcommunications

Search Brussels

The Museum of the Post Office in Brussels keeps a complete record of all postal stamps issued in Belgium since 1849, plus drawings, engraving tools, and other materials associated with stamp production. Postal stamps from other countries are also on display, including a rare print of the first English stamp ever issued, the 1840 "Penny Black". In one room, mannekins model Belgian postal uniforms from earlier eras. In another a 19th century post office is meticulously recreated, and in another, contemporary mail-sorting technologies are explained. Appended onto the postal museum is an exhibit dedicated to telecommunications, from Morse Code through the modern era.
