Rockoxhuis

Search Antwerp

The Rockoxhuis is the house which belonged to the humanist, philanthopist, and mayor of Antwerp, Nicolas Rockox (1560-1640). Rockox was a friend of Peter Paul Rubens, and like Rubens, a collector of art and antiquities. While Rockox possesions were scattered in the centuries following his death, the current owner of the Rockoxhuis has filled the house with items in the spirit of those that Rockox would have chosen, including decorative furniture and paintings by 16th and 17th century masters.
