Zwin Nature Reserve

The Zwin is the river delta that provided aquatic access to the city of Brugge during Brugges glory days in the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, then sealed its decline by silting up in the middle of the 1500s. Today, the Zwin is a nature reserve, a rich coastal wetland ecosystem populated by a wide variety of sea organisms and birds. In late July and August, sea lavender blooms carpet the area with vibrant purple. Guided tours are available once per week.
