Clay Pit State Vehicular Recreation Area provides good beginner terrain for off road enthusiasts. The clay used to build Lake Oroville was taken from the Feather River Valley, 3 miles west of Oroville. The resulting depression, a large shallow pit ringed with low hills, is the site of the 220-acre recreation area. It is a motorcycle, all terrain vehicle, and dune buggy use area, as well as a rifle range. Call in advance to determine the riding conditions. From Hwy 7, head west on Oroville Dam Boulevard (Highway 162), 2 miles south on Larkin Road to the entrance.
