Occidental College is one of the oldest institutions of higher learning in the West. Founded in 1887, the College has been at its present location in the Northeast section of
Los Angeles known as Eagle Rock (midway between
Pasadena and
Glendale) since 1914.
Occidental is consistently ranked in the top tier of nationally recognized selective liberal arts colleges. They have been ranked first in the nation in diversity by US News and World Report.
The curriculum consists of 22 separate majors in 20 departments, interdisciplinary majors in 10 areas and combined-plan programs in liberal arts and engineering with Columbia University and Caltech.
Designed by renowned architect Myron Hunt and noted for its beauty, the heart of the 120-acre campus is the oak-studded Quadrangle and the College's original Beaux Arts academic buildings.
Occidental is located in Los Angeles County and has an enrollment of about 1700.
