The terrain within the Modoc National Forest ranges from almost one mile to almost two miles in elevation. Much of this area in the remote northeastern corner of California was covered by an immense lava flow millions of years ago. The forest is home to hundreds of species of wildlife and lies along the Pacific Flyway.
