The Sierra National Forest includes almost all the land between
Sequoia National Park and
Kings Canyon National Park. Covering about 1.3 million acres, the terrain ranges from gently rolling foothills at the edge of the
San Joaquin Valley to the ragged summit of the
Sierra Nevada.
Clusters of sequoias are found at various points within the forest. One stand of these majestic trees is the Nelder Grove south of Yosemite National Park near Bass Lake. Another is farther south near Dinkey Creek.
Although the forest has no visitor center, information about campgrounds and recreational opportunities is available from district ranger stations and forest headquarters in Clovis.
