"Key City" of the High Desert |
The City of Victorville was incorporated on September 21, 1962. The town of Victorville was named after Jacob Nash Victor - a railroad pioneer. His major accomplishment was bringing to reality the second transcontinental railroad in the United States, by giving the Santa Fe Route a Pacific coast terminal. In 1901, the U.S. Post Office changed the name of the town "Victor" to "Victorville", due to a conflict with another town already named "Victor", in Colorado.Victorville is situated approximately 97 miles Northeast of Los Angeles and 35 miles northeast of San Bernardino. The town is located just north of the San Bernardino Mountains, at the edge of the Mojave Desert. Interstate 15 and State Highway 18 intersect near the heart of the city and Victorville is bordered on the west by State Highway 395.
