Situated at the head of the Sacramento Valley and the Upper Trinity River, the three components of this 42,500-acre NRA embrace four major dam-created lakes: Whiskeytown, Clair Engle, Lewiston, and Shasta.

Recreational gold panning is permitted in the Whiskeytown unit. Other recreational activities include hiking, swimming, boating, and sailing.

An admission fee is charged for each vehicle entering the area and an additional fee applies to camping. Annual passes are $30.00 and daily passes are $5.00.
