Breckenridge is one of the oldest continuously occupied mining towns in the state, booming just shortly after gold was panned from the Blue River in 1859. Area recreation is plentiful - a world-class ski resort is nearby, attracting winter visitors. The town's 254-building National Historic District is one of the state's largest. Summer historical walking and mine tours are conducted by the Summit Historical Society. A paved bicycle path offers a transportation alternative for traveling to
Vail,
Keystone, or
Frisco. Breckenridge is located southwest of
Denver on Hwy 9.
