The reservoir is located on the Blue River at an elevation of 8,000 feet. Water surface for fishing is approximately 2,125 acres. There is a boat ramp at McDonald Flats and a privately operated marina in the town of Heeney. There are numerous hiking trails in the area, mostly off the southwest side of the reservoir, leading up toward the Gore Range. Green Mountain Reservoir lies between Silverthorne and Kremmling, on the Blue River, along Colorado Highway 9.
