Monarch is located east of
Gunnison on Hwy 50 on the banks of the South
Arkansas River. The community is a top ski and snowboard destination.
Monarch Ski & Snowboard Area is known for its snow, crowd-less slopes, and backcountry snowcat operation. Other activities in the area include horseback riding, snowmobiling, and riding the Monarch Crest Gondola to over 12,000 feet.
