Morrison is located just southwest of the
Denver city limits. Bear Creek flows through the middle of the town and provides water for Morrison,
Denver,
Englewood, and other communities upstream. It has also been the source of great destruction at times during the town's existence.
The town came into existence after the creation of the Denver and South Park Railway in 1872. The original plan was to extend the line much farther, but it never got past Morrison. It served the community until the floods of 1933.
A nearby outdoor concert venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, is a popular attraction for visitors. Dinosaur Ridge is a must-see for all the archaeology buffs out there - a self-guided tour takes visitors past exposed dinosaur prints entombed in sandstone.
