One-half mile of easily-accessed ice climbing and getting bigger. Located in the Uncompahgre Gorge in Ouray, Colorado, it was opened in 1995 as the world's first park devoted exclusively to the sport of ice climbing. Climbing is free. A small band of volunteers developed the Park, and a volunteer Board of Directors is now raising funds to facilitate expanding the Park. There is an additional one-half mile of climbable terrain in the Gorge. An area known as the "School Room," includes a number of routes (class W I 3/4) that are utilized primarily by beginners who receive instruction from a number of local climbing guides.
