At an elevation of 6,000 feet, Rifle Gap State Park has something to offer every outdoor enthusiast. The clean, clear waters of this 350-acre reservoir afford some of the best scuba diving, boating, swimming, water skiing and windsurfing in Colorado. Camping, hiking and picnicking opportunities at this 1,305-acre park also await the Rifle Gap State Park visitor. Even golfers can pursue their sport here, teeing off on the 18-hole course that lies adjacent to the area. In the wintertime, ice fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling are available for cold-weather enthusiasts. Rifle Gap is close to many ski areas -- only 40 miles from Glenwood's famous hot springs, and home to a variety of wildlife, including deer and elk. The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation began construction in 1965; Colorado State Parks took over administration in 1968.
