Chaplin is located in Windham County between North Windham and Ashford near Mansfield Hollow State Park.
This community was named for Deacon Benjamin Chaplin who was a settler in the area.
Chaplin, one of the smallest towns of Windham County was incorporated as an ecclesiastical society in October, 1809. William Perkins, of Ashford, was appointed to enroll the names of all within prescribed limits who should elect to become members of the new society.
Local attractions include: James L. Goodwin State Forest, Natchaug State Forest, Mansfield Hollow State Park, Mansfield Hallow Wildlife Area, and Pine Acres Lake.
