A brook near the Cheney Homestead, built by clockmaker Timothy Cheney in 1785, supplied water for the grist mill built and operated by Cheney and his son, George. George's sons established the Mt. Nebo Silk Company, which later incorporated as Cheney Brothers and became world famous as a leader in the silk industry.
