The Connecticut River Museum is located on the Connecticut River in
Essex, this museum has exhibits relating to river steamboats, shipbuilding, archaeology and the 1775 American "Turtle", said to be the first submarine.
A collection of boats built and used on the Connecticut River is displayed in the boat house. Changing exhibits are presented.
Open Tuesday - Sunday, 10am-5pm; closed Labor Day, Thanksgiving and December 25.
