East Lyme is located in
New London County west of
New London between
Waterford and Chesterfield along Highway 161 near Powers Lake. Nehantic State Forest is located just north.
Originally settled in the 1640's in what then was a section of the Saybrook Plantation that stretched from Lyme to New London. Originally occupied by the Nehantic Indians this town would seperate and be incorporated in 1839.
Local attractions include: Powers Lake, Nehantic State Forest, Pallagansett Lake, Darrow Pond, Latimer Brook, Gorton Pond, Goodwins Pond, Niantic Bay, and Rogers Lake.
