The Bull's Bridge Inn

Search Kent Connecticut

Records show that this inn was built at the bridge crossing the Housatonic River during the Revolutionary period by the prolific Jacob and Mary Bull. Jacob did most of the work because Mary was generally occupied with birthing and raising their twenty children. Jacob's responsibility for maintaining the bridge, running the inn, and keeping Mary happy, kept him pretty busy. In 1781, the bridge floor was under repair when Gen. Washington had to cross on his way to Newport, RI to confer with the French. Jacob warned the general about the floor but neglected to warn his horse, and the horse fell in the water. The bridge is now one of two covered bridges in Connecticut.

Bull's Bridge Inn offers a charming, comfortable dining experience in one of Connecticut's most beautiful, scenic areas. The restaurant is located on Route 7, along the Appalachian Trail on the Housatonic River.
