The Gallery is situated in a park, overlooked by Kendal Castle and beside the River Kent on the edge of Cumbria's Lake District. Manyt important works of art can be enjoyed in this beautiful Georgian villa, which include its collections and a changing series of exhibitions. Paintings from the 18th-century collection are hung in the Georgian rooms on the ground floor; these include works by Loutherbourg as well as portraits by Romney, Allan Ramsay and Thomas Lawrence. Displayed in the same rooms is a fine collection of miniatures, dating mainly from the 18th- and early 19th-centuries, and a fine collection of 18th-century furniture in walnut, mahogany and satinwood, English porcelain and pottery.
