This historic building is still used as a court and prison; visitors can still see the heraldic display in the Shire Hall, experience being locked in the dungeons, or stand in the dock of the Crown Court from where thousands of prisoners were sentenced. Also on display is the beautiful furniture in the Grand Jury Room where Queen Victoria dined. Visit the 'Drop Room' from where hundreds of condemned prisoners went out on to the gallows in front of the cheering crowds. Open March-December; groups welcome.
