The city of Leeds is located in the West Riding of Yorkshire, situated on the Aire, by which it has water connection with the Humber. It is connected with the western seaboard by the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.
Kirkstall Abbey (1147), located 2.5miles from the city, is one of the best preserved of English monastic houses. Included in the city also are the mansion and park of Temple Newsam, once the property of the Knights Templars.
