Pennine Mountains

Search Visit

The Pennines are a series of rounded mountains that extend from the Scottish border about halfway down the length of England. They are also known as the Pennine Chain or Pennine Hills, and are often called "The Backbone of England."

The Pennines are separated from the low Cheviots by the gap of the Tyne. At the southern end, the chain meets the Trent. West of the Pennines lies the Lake District.
