Wiltshire is an inland county in southern England, bounded on the north and northwest by
Gloucestershire, on the northeast by
Berkshire, on the east and southeast by
Hampshire, on the south by
Dorset, and on the west by
Somerset. It has an area of 1345 square miles.
The county is hilly throughout its greater part. Toward the south is the Salisbury Plain, at an elevation of about 400 feet. It is bordered on the norty by the North Downs and to the northeast by the Marlborough Downs.
The principal streams are the Bristol Avon and the Salisbury Avon. The capital is Salisbury.
