The museum's wide-ranging permanent collection contains over 4000 works of art which encompass a diversity of sources, cultures, and periods, including late 19th- and early 20th-century pieces by artists such as Edgar Degas, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso. Contemporary American art, graphics and photography, sculpture, and antiquities can also be seen here. Changing exhibits of various art media are also featured; more than 20 outstanding exhibitions are planned for the Museum's new 44,000-sq-ft Mizner Park facility, opened to the public January 2001. The grounds also include an interactive children's educational gallery, and expanded sculpture garden; expansion of the facility's Art School is scheduled for June 2001. Museum galleries and shop open Tuesday-Sunday, admission is free to the public on Wednesdays; closed Mondays, holidays.
