Housed within the renovated former Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot, the museum displays artifacts focusing on the history of
Fort Myers and southwest Florida; exhibits include the Calusa and Seminole Indian cultures, Spanish exploration and early settlers, a recovered Aircobra fighter plane, and a circa 1900s pioneer cracker-style farmhouse. Other highlights include the restored 'Esperanza,' the last and longest private Pullman railcar built in America, circa 1928, and a scale model of turn-of-the-century Fort Myers.
Guided group tours are available, as well as downtown walking tours which are hosted December-April. The Museum also conducts bus tours to other historic sites throughout southern Florida; call for current schedule. The musuem is open Tuesday-Saturday; closed Sundays, Mondays and holidays.
