The name Punta Gorda means "Broad Point" in the language of the Conquistadors, and a colorful festival each year is held on Pine Island in Charlotte Harbor celebrating Ponce de Leon's landing.

Near the historic district of Punta Gorda, you'll find Fishermen's Village. This unique waterfront destination includes many gift, clothing, and specialty shops, several restaurants, a military heritage museum, a 98-slip marina and fully furnished luxury villas.
