Founded in 1956, the University of South Florida belongs to the state university system of Florida. It is a comprehensive public institution offering undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide variety of fields. More than 15,000 full-time undergraduates attend classes at its 1913-acre campus 10 miles northeast of downtown
Tampa.
The vast majority of undergraduate students are from Florida. Although there is some on-campus housing, most students commute. Popular majors include business, education, and social science.
