Originally part of the Bella Vista Plantation owned by General Joseph Hernandez. Extending from the Atlantic Ocean to the Matanzas River, the preserve covers more than 400 acres of coastal Florida; coquina rock outcroppings worn into unusual shapes by the sea give the beach an unearthly appearance. Formal gardens contain exotic plants from around the world; a history of the area is presented at the Young House. Picnicking is permitted; guided walks provided on weekends and by request. Open daily, 8am-dusk.
