During the French Revolution the books from the Mont-St-Michel abbey were moved for safekeeping to the town of Avranches, including 200 medieval parchment manuscripts. Some 30 articles (illuminated manuscripts and ancient books) illustrating the intellectual and artistic activity of the Benedictine monastery are exhibited in a renovated old library, comprising one of the best collections from the Norman era in all of Europe. Guided visits are available during July and August, upon request.
