Founded in 910, Cluny Abbey was noted for its strict observance of the Benedictine Rule. At the height of its power, the abbey commanded over 10,000 monks living in religious centers all across Europe. It remained the largest abbey church in Christendom until the 16 century. What remains of the abbey today can be visited by guided tour, which explores the Holy Water Bell Tower (Clocher de lEau Benite) and the Musee dArt, housed in the former abbots palace.
