In a cradle of greenery and seemingly limitless countryside, Hazebrouck and the area surrounding the city offer a wide range of activities and events throughout the summer. Lovers of wide open spaces will delight in country walks, especially in the Nieppe Forest, while culture enthusiasts can enjoy guided tours of the Augustins Museum and the church of Saint-Eloi. The 2,500 hectares of the Nieppe Forest, on the site of the former valley of the Lys, is the largest forest area on the Flemish plain. Tucked away in the forest in the hamlet of La Motte au Bois is the Chateau de la Grange, built on the site of the former residence of the Counts of Flanders. It was restored at the beginning of the century and is now home to the Amaury-de-la-Grange Aeronautical Institute. The Chateau is open to the public on Sundays.
