Built by the engineer Gustav Eiffel in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition, the Eiffel Tower, perhaps the most popular tourist attraction in Paris, is 317 meters high and carries Paris radio and television transmitters. The first level, reached by elevator or by climbing 360 steps, contains a post office. The second level, offering panoramic views of the city, features the Jules Verne Restaurant, where dinner reservations are a must--if you can get them. The third level is reached via the double-decker elevators and features a viewing gallery.
