Chateau dIf

Located 2 km SW of the port on the tiny island of If, the castle was built in 1524 for military purposes and later became a prison. It is famous as the setting for imprisonment of Alexandre Dumas fictional Count of Monte Cristo. The castle and its cells are well preserved and visitors can enjoy a nice view of Marseille from here.
