The Byzantine-style basilica, begun in the 19th century, was built in appreciation of the city being spared invasion during the Franco Prussian War, despite a lengthy siege. Dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Christ, it is set in the heart of Montmartre and offers a panoramic view of the capital covering a 50-mile radius.
