Created in 1824, the Montparnasse, or South, cemetery is a pentagon-shaped area covering 18 hectares. It boasts a number of prestigious tombs, including those of Charles Baudelaire, Eugene Ionesco, Camille Saint-Saens, Frederic Auguste Bartholdi and Constantin Brancusi.
