Search Rennes

Located on the south bank of the Vilaine River, the Museum of Fine Arts contains an extensive collection of paintings from the 16th century to contemporary works. The 17th century is particularly well-represented, with paintings by Rubens, La Hyre, Le Nain, Champaigne and Le Brun. Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman archaeological exhibits are also on display. The Musee de Bretagne, which traced the history of the region, also occupied the same building but was closed in 2000 to be relocated in 2003 to the first floor of the planned Nouvel Equipement Culturel (New Cultural Facilities).
