Canton is located in
Cherokee County, of which it is the county seat, just north of
Atlanta between Ball Ground and
Marietta along Interstate 575 near Allatoona Lake in the
Mountains Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 5,187, an increase of 370 since 1990.
Canton is part of the Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
Well-known residents have included John Hannah, football player.
