Marietta is located in
Cobb County, of which it is the county seat, just northwest of
Atlanta along Highway 41 near the Chattahoochee River in the
Metro Atlanta Region of the state. Marietta is part of the
Atlanta, Georgia metro area.
One tradition says the community was named for the wife of Judge Thomas Cobb; another says it was named for Marietta, OH.
