Dahlonega

Dahlonega is located in Lumpkin County, of which it is the county seat, northeast of Atlanta along Highway 19 near Lake Sidney Lanier and the Chattahoochee National forest in the Mountains Region of the state. The population estimate for July 1, 1998 was 3,616, an increase of 530 since 1990.

Its name derives from Cherokee for "golden color" and gold was discovered here in 1829.
