Midway Church

Search Midway Georgia

Located in the center of town, Midway Church was founded in 1792 by Puritans who moved to the area as missionaries to the American Indians. This 1957 building is a replica of the original church, complete with a slave gallery and high pulpit. From its congregation came two signers of the Declaration of Independence, two Revolutionary War generals and a U.S. Senator. Among the church's early pastors were Abiel Holmes, father of Oliver Wendell Holmes and Jedidiah Morse, father of Samuel Morse.

The church and cemetery can be visited at any time; the keys are kept at the service station next door.
